What is COOLER ?
What is cooler? To say one’s father died of heart attack or in 911. This is the story of one 11 years old. This is the story of Dennis who prefers his dad to mum. His mum Laura never appreciated what she had until she lost it. Her husband Bob had acute heart attack in the middle of trying to passionately make-up with him for her over-bearing attitude. He did not survive it.
The following heated conversation ensued between Bob and her mum Laura in the kitchen after his death.
Laura (fuming with anger): You have to tell the truth. Your father did not die in 911.
Dennis (tensed up with tears): No!
Laura (screaming aloud): Dennis! Your father did not die in 911.
Dennis: I know but what is cooler ok?
Laura (screaming louder still): Dennis!
Dennis (defiantly defending his view): What is cooler?
Dennis: What is cooler way to die, 911 or you read my face.
Laura (struggling to admit): Yee...Yee...yes, 911 is cooler.
Dennis: It is cooler.
Laura: If you do not tell the truth, am gona ring the school and tell them everything.
Dennis: No! You cannot. Everyone will think am a freak.
Speaking of cooler way to die, Jesus’ death was not a cooler way to die but the choices he made was. He died a shameful death. He was scourged, stripped, bruised and crucified for my sake, and your sake. One curious gaze at the word “Scourge” sent horror down my spine. It is a blow that came from a whip with many leather strands, each having sharp pieces of bone or metal at the ends. It reduces the back to raw flesh. Why did he do it? He did it for love. He did it pay the ultimate price for our sins for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God (Romans 3 vs. 23).
Here comes the coolest part, John 3 vs. 16 says “for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believe in him will not die but have everlasting life. John 10 vs. 10 says, “I have come that they may have life, and life in abundance. This abundant life can only be found in Jesus the good shepherd. The good shepherd sacrificed his life and knows his sheep.
My dear friend, Jesus knows you. He knows your frailty and struggles. He shared in your humanity and weakness and wants to help you. All he wants from you is as easy as ABC “ACCEPT” “BELIEVE” and “CONFESS” with your mouth your sins and be saved.
Trust him today. Will you?
